Bench Press Problems
by: Josh -- Author WLC System

Have you measured your left and right arms?

They could possibly be different lengths. Many people have this problem. Some people have a significant difference in the length of their arms or the length of their legs.

Or do you mean that your right arm is lagging in strength?

If your right arm is behind in strength, you need to start incorporating dumbbell exercises instead of barbell exercises.

And I mean dumbbell exercises on most upper body exercises... not just the bench press.

This will definitely fix your bench press issue but it's going to take some time.

For example, instead of barbell bench press do dumbbell bench press.

Instead of barbell overhead press do 1-arm overhead dumbbell press.

Instead of barbell rows do 1-arm dumbbell rows.

Instead of barbell curls do alternating dumbbell curls.

Instead of close grip barbell bench press do close grip dumbbell bench press.

See what I mean?

Stop doing barbell exercises and opt for dumbbell exercises instead. This will fix your strength problem.

And if your arms are different lengths, I would still go with mainly dumbbell exercises as this will fix that problem for you too and allow each muscle group to develop without relying too much on the other side of the muscle group.

I hope this fully answers your question and fixes your bench press issues. If not, please let me know. Just respond here if you have any other questions for me. I'm always here to help.

Also...

Make sure you are using proper form and technique on the bench press before you decide you have a problem.

Here's where you can learn how to use proper form and technique on the bench press:

How to Bench Press Properly

If you are already using proper form and technique with the bench press, go with the plan of using dumbbell exercises for the upper body.

Use that plan for a few months and see if that doesn't fix your problems. Then, you can re-evaluate from there. I'll be here to help when you get there.

That should answer your question completely. If not, please let me know.
