Getting Out of the Blues...

No Fear

No Fear

Kevin has been one of my long time friends of this website... I've never met Kevin in person, but I asked him if I could share his latest email with everyone because I thought it might help others out there who might be having some of the same problems. If anyone can share anything else that has helped them, please do so.

From Kevin:

Hey Josh,

Thanks for this email I really need it lol. Im actually still reading the PDF for the WLC program im on page 200 and taking notes!

Lately I have to admit Ive been having alot of trouble. I believe I was hit with seasonal depression but I've been trying my best to overcome it. I've been almost crying for this crappy weather to be over.

I've also been having roommate problems so that has taken a toll on my mental health. I have been good about going to the gym Mon Wed Fri to do small workouts and trying to apply what ive learned from the PDF's. I must admit though these small workouts are not necessarily meant to be a part of the WLC program, Im just trying to stay motivated while I read the PDF. In addition on Tues and Thurs I run for 45 minutes at a constant speed of 7MPH.

I also feel that the workouts keep me from slipping into the 'blues' but again they arent true WLC workouts, as Im still reading everything. On top
of all that school is alot of work and this is my last semester so Im trying to go on interviews and get my resume out but I do feel overwhelmed.

I know once I finish the PDF and I feel confident in what Im doing my I will have no trouble with motivation.

So yes if there is any advice you can lay upon me I will gratefully listen to anything haha.

But if there is any advice you can give on getting out of the blues I'll take it, as I know my temporary hit of depression has effected me in more ways I care to count.

Also, what are some motivation techniques you use? I'll tell you one of mine. The medieval spartan looking helmet and the quotes from the PDF have
helped me considerably.

Ok well i have class so I have to go,

But thanks for this email it helped alot man:) I will look forward to talking to you again

-Kevin-

Part 1: Some of My Tips and Tricks
by: Josh -- Author WLC Program

This is the First Part:

Hey Kevin,

Nice to hear from you again... It's been a little while since I've heard from you and just wanted to check in on you. I am very glad that I did.

I see that you are a little depressed right now... Let's see if we can't fix that over the next few days and keep it going. Let's take one day at a time for now.

Let's look at some of the things in your life where you can make improvements. When you make improvements, your life will get better. You need something to look forward to each day, each week, each year. If we don't have anything to look forward to, we can easily get depressed. Been there, done that.

And that's probably why you are depressed during these long winter months. You probably do more outside activity, get a lot more fresh air, and just have more fun overall during warm weather. To tell you the truth, I am more than ready for some warm weather. It's snowing again here today. It'll be Spring time before we know it, though.

How is your living environment? I know you said you were having room mate problems. Is your space organized and clean? Sometimes organizing your space will help you feel better. Get your finances in order, your closet organized, your vehicle nice and clean, and anything else that you might have.

Work out any problems you have with family members or friends that may be bothering you too. Sometimes you have to be the first to give in if you're having a fight, argument, etc. It's okay to be the first to say sorry. I know you might not have any of these problems but I want to cover it just in case.

Did you know mold growth in your living space can cause depression? Think of anything that may be causing you to have depression around your living areas or places you spend the most time. Cleaning and organizing works wonders.

What about sleep and rest? Do you get plenty of that each night. Try to get more quality sleep if possible. Use some of those tricks in the WLC Program Manual... make your room into a comfortable, cool, and dark place for better sleep. Get into a routine so your body is ready to go to sleep on time every night.

Cut back on alcohol for sure if you drink. Alcohol is a poison to your body as you already know.

Part 2: Continued from Below...
by: Josh -- Author WLC Program

Continued from Below:

The food you eat can make a HUGE, HUGE difference in how you feel. Seriously. This is very important. Just ask yourself if it passes the 'Natural' test. Food is powerful... very, very powerful. So try your best to eat healthy foods all the time.

Next...

Short workouts are good if you are crunched for time. The most important technique of any workout program is increasing the weight consistently. If a program helps you to increase the weight you are lifting frequently, the program will work well. So just make sure you are increasing the weight as often as you can and you will make great progress. When you start using the WLC Program Workouts, you'll see how easily you are able to increase the weight.

Let's talk about your outlook on life...

Whenever I start to feel overwhelmed and feeling a little down, I immediately change my outlook on life. Your life is an open book. You should try to write the best book possible.

See when I wake up each day to go to work... I consider myself lucky to have a job. Lucky to be able to make choices in my life. Most all of us are very lucky to live in such a great country. Did you know you can pretty much do whatever you want with your life? You make your life what you want it to be.

I constantly try to get better at everything that I do. You need goals. You need dreams. For example, my dream is to not have to work 80 hours a week. I want to be able to spend my life with family and friends. I want to be able to take extra money and help people who really need help.

The ultimate goal in my life is to reach heaven with my wife and the rest of my family and friends and as many other people as possible. I'm not sure if you believe in heaven, but I do. And that is my ultimate goal.

So whenever I set other goals in life, I ask myself... will this help me reach my ultimate goal. And I call reaching heaven... the ULTIMATE goal. Working out and eating right helps me to reach my ultimate goal because it keeps me here on Earth for a longer period of time so I can help more people. It also helps me be in a better mood, have more energy, and get more things done in life.

Part 3: Ultimate Goal in Life
by: Josh -- Author WLC Program

Continued from Below:

So start with your ultimate goal in life. What is your ultimate goal? And then work down from there. Remember, most things that you worry about in life aren't even under your control.

In my opinion, the way for me to reach my ultimate goal is to help others. I think everyone's goal should be to help others. I can tell you right now... most people in this country are in too big of a hurry to help others. We have to be somewhere or we're running late, so we ignore the people in need. Who cares about that guy whose car broke down in the freezing rain? Let's just pass him up...

Instead, we should be helping each other out. The world would be a much better and more loving place if everyone did so. And guess what? This gives you a purpose in life... a sense of accomplishment when you help others. You are doing good in your life, and it just feels great.

Maybe these thoughts of mine will help you in some way Kevin. I sure hope they do. Keep a good outlook on life and remember that it is an open book. You can make it whatever you want. Schedule regular activities that are fun for you.

I was just thinking about scheduling an annual camp out at my home for all my friends and family. Have a fire, roast some marshmallows, good music, good food, and just spend time with everyone all night. Play some corn hole, kickball, card games, etc.

Take a vacation... doesn't even have to be to anywhere special. Make small things fun... because the little stuff is what usually matters most. Schedule time for fun, time with friends and family.

Just have fun! Your life can be fun every single day if you make it that way. It's your choice.

And I know exactly what you mean about the job search during school. I had a semester of going to school and doing job interviews. It was tough! Just fight through it like a warrior and you'll be stronger when you get through it. I promise that everything does get easier... until you have kids -- then it gets tough again!

That's exactly why I used that image in the WLC Program Guide... helped to motivate me too. Have you seen the one of the warrior about to go to battle all alone? He will fight by himself against an entire army. And his mindset? He knows he will win the battle. He is not afraid. He is confident. He has no fear. He will do whatever it takes to win. That is courage. That is ferocity. Take this mindset into everything that you do, and you will reach every goal you have in life.

Start setting goals for your life today and start knocking them down one by one. And then set some more. And knock em down again. Have fun Kevin... that's what it's all about. Goals give your life purpose and that's what we all need.

What Do You Think?
by: Josh -- Author WLC Program

Hey Kevin,

I know most of the stuff I talked about below is not related to weight lifting or working out, but exercise and eating right will help you feel so much better too...

The key to feeling and looking better, though, is continuous improvement. If you start using the WLC Program, it's all about continuous improvement. You don't have to get everything perfect or follow everything exactly from the beginning.

You can slowly add things and improve each day. Don't be overwhelmed by all the information. Just slowly implement aspects of the program. The program gives you goals in your life. When you start getting results and reaching your goals, it feels great.

Really hope all this helps you out Kevin.
