If you've been here at Weight Lifting Complete very long…
You've probably already learned that you can directly burn fat from your body through cardiovascular exercise.
You also know that you can lose fat by decreasing the amount of food you eat.
So, what's the best strategy for burning fat? Should you do cardio and decrease calories to maximize fat loss?
The Best Strategy for Burning Body Fat
You have to create a calorie deficit or energy deficit within your body in order to lose fat.
When your body requires a certain amount of energy and you aren't providing it with that energy in the form of food, your body will look for other sources of energy.
Your body can turn to your fat stores and/or muscle stores for energy. You want your body to use fat stores and not your hard earned, calorie burning muscle.
So, how do you get your body to use the fat stores and not that hard earned muscle for energy?
When you go on a low calorie or starvation diet, you tell your body that you want to shift the source of energy to your muscle. Your body will save your fat stores because it's trying to survive. More fat stores will help the body survive longer.
When you feed your body properly and create a calorie deficit through cardiovascular exercise, you tell your body that it's okay to burn the fat. Your body knows that you are going to feed it properly. The body doesn't feel that it's under attack and will gladly burn the fat stores.
On our programs, you will always increase cardiovascular exercise versus decreasing calories in your diet.
Sure, it takes more work to burn fat this way, but you won't be sacrificing that hard earned muscle. When you keep the muscle, you keep your number one ally in the fat burning war.
Once you get the body you want, you won't have to work so hard to keep the body fat off of you.
Opt In for More Cardio versus Decreasing Calorie Intake
Decreasing calories will lower your metabolism while increasing cardio will burn fat without a decrease in metabolism. Cardio actually helps your body burn fat more efficiently. Keeping that metabolism revved will help you burn fat at an even faster rate.
So, tell your body that it's fine to burn those fat stores by increasing cardio before decreasing calories. This one is a no-brainer. Always increase cardio to create a calorie deficit before decreasing your calories.
This is going to be a new fat loss strategy for many of you.
Most people, even the more experienced, always opt to decrease calories first. This works until you decrease calories to the point in which you trigger the starvation response from your body. Not to mention the fact that every time you decrease calories, you decrease your metabolism.
When you trigger the starvation response, muscle becomes the number one energy source.
You start losing muscle mass faster than ever. It's better to not take this chance and use cardiovascular exercise to burn fat from your body rather than starving fat from your body through a decrease in the amount of food you eat.
The end result is more muscle mass and less body fat. Your body composition improves along with the body that appears in the mirror. You become a fat burning machine
