When you go on a low calorie or starvation diet, you tell your body that you want to shift the source of energy to your muscle. Your body will save your fat stores because it’s trying to survive. More fat stores will help the body survive longer.
When you feed your body properly and create a calorie deficit through cardiovascular exercise, you tell your body that it’s okay to burn the fat. Your body knows that you are going to feed it properly. The body doesn’t feel that it’s under attack and will gladly burn the fat stores.

Decreasing calories will lower your metabolism while increasing cardio will burn fat without a decrease in metabolism. Cardio actually helps your body burn fat more efficiently. Keeping that metabolism revved will help you burn fat at an even faster rate.
So, tell your body that it’s fine to burn those fat stores by increasing cardio before decreasing calories. This one is a no-brainer. Always increase cardio to create a calorie deficit before decreasing your calories.

Most people, even the more experienced, always opt to decrease calories first. This works until you decrease calories to the point in which you trigger the starvation response from your body. Not to mention the fact that every time you decrease calories, you decrease your metabolism.
