Just Beginning Phase 1 and Still Learning

by Moki Holmes
(Weed, CA. USA)

Hi Josh

Yes, I received the "Quick Start" e-mail and it's been a great help....thanks.

I've been lifting for 3 weeks now and tracking
my diet calories on the meal planner log. When I began the program I weighted 189#.

Yesterday I did the end of week measurements for the 3rd week and I weighted 197.2 lbs.

I purchased a weighing scale that measures weight to a tenth of a pound and also measures body fat and water hydration levels. The scale says I have 19-20% body fat but the caliper measurements
reveal 8-9mm for 16.5-17 % body fat don't know which one to trust.

Everything is going fine but I'm finding that even though I'm adding 5 lbs of weight onto every excercise for each workout I haven't really been pushed to my limits where I can't do any further reps. Should I increase to ten pounds till I hit the wall or progress at a steady 5 pound ncrease. My over head presses will probably hit my plateau in the next few workouts.

I also enrolled my wife and I into our local gym just to have access to the cardio equipment.

Thanks for touching bases with me, and here's wishing you a sucessful and happy new year.

8.2 Pound Gain in 3 Weeks!
by: Josh -- Author WLC Program

Hello Moki!

Very good to hear from you. I saw the comment you left me the other day on that form, and I really appreciate it. Very much.

That is absolutely awesome progress! I can see that you are working very hard. Many people don't put the effort into tracking their calories and they really lose out on some huge gains. It's really the only way to make continuous progress.

I don't trust the body fat numbers a scale gives you simply because they are so erratic. One day... even under the same conditions, I could be 20% body fat and the next day I would be 10%... if your scale gives you consistent body fat readings, then it might be a good measure of progress. All the ones I've ever tried have never been consistent. I would definitely trust the calipers over any body fat scale.

I would definitely continue progressing at 5 pound increases. The overhead press usually stalls first, but don't let your mind talk you into it. Keep pushing hard and you might even surprise yourself. Don't let your mind limit you... it's very, very powerful. If you believe you are about to hit a wall or that a set is going to be difficult, it most likely will be. Believe that you can do the weight easily for any set that you do. Really believe.

Awesome on the gym membership for you and your wife. I wish you and her the best of luck in everything that you do. I hope she is into lifting weights as you are... if she isn't, let her know how much she will love it. She really will. And weight training will change her body so much faster than cardio alone.

Thanks for updating me on the great, great progress you are making. Keep up the great work... I am very proud of you. 8.2 pounds in 3 weeks is great progress!
