A List Of Weight Loss Programs...
Which Ones REALLY Work?

by Joshua Tapp

A complete list of weight loss programs will be the subject of this page. Are you wondering if NutriSystem really works? How about Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, or the Jenny Craig weight loss system?

Be sure to listen to what I have to say here on this page... What I'm about to say applies to any weight loss program.

A weight loss program must include weight lifting. If the weight loss program doesn't include weightlifting or some sort of progressive resistance training, the program is no good for you.

A weight loss diet alone will never work for permanent weight loss. Why you ask?

Weight loss comes in the form of muscle weight and fat weight. You shouldn't care so much about the number on the scale decreasing as you should the amount of fat and muscle you are actually losing.

When you lose muscle, your metabolism slows and you must decrease calories just to lose more weight. Your body goes into starvation mode.

When you go into starvation mode, your body will hold onto its fat stores instead of burning them for energy. Muscle is burnt for energy and your metabolism slows even more.

The number on the scale goes down, but muscle is lost. You look smaller and skinnier and people notice that you've lost weight. You're happy with your results and recommend the weight loss program to all your friends.

The truth is, though, you are in worse shape than before you started.

You go back to eating normally, and you gain weight back in the form of fat faster than ever. Your body fat percentage is higher than ever. The program was a failure. And why?

Because you didn't lift weights to help hold onto the muscle you have. When you lift weights and eat more calories, you tell your body that it's fine to burn the fat.

Now that we've got that out of the way, let's look at the list of weight loss programs.

List of Weight Loss Programs

  • Weight Watchers Diet
Weight Watchers restricts calories and even allows you to eat desserts like chocolate cake and more. Chocolate cake contains tons of sugar and trans fats - the worst foods you can possibly eat!

Any diet that allows you to eat crap like that and actually promotes it as a benefit should be banned. Stop being lazy! You don't need chocolate cake. Eat right and be healthy. That means no cake.

I don't recommend Weight Watchers at all! I can't stand the program because I've seen what happens to the people who use this program. They end up in worse shape than before.

Moving on with the list of weight loss programs...

  • South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is another low calorie diet that sends your body into starvation mode. This is a much better diet than the Weight Watchers program simply because it promotes healthy foods and not chocolate cake.

This diet still doesn't meet my definition of healthy based on some of the foods I see in the meal plans. I hate weight loss programs that give people options for desserts - why do people have to have desserts?

We're all spoiled. Give it up. You don't need desserts. You're not going to die if you don't get to eat some horrible junk food.

Food is for energy and health. It's not for pleasure every meal. You can have some great tasting meals without desserts. Eat healthy every meal.

Let's go on to the next diet in the list of weight loss programs...

  • Glycemic Index Diet
I do think the glycemic index has some good guidelines to follow, but the downfall of the glycemic index is that it doesn't distinguish between healthy and unhealthy foods. This diet might not even belong in this list of weight loss programs.

The glycemic index simply measures the effect a food has on your blood sugar levels. Keeping blood sugar levels steady throughout the day is a key to maximum fat loss, so the program is definitely onto something.

But, the glycemic numbers for each food is measured when the food is eaten alone. Not many people eat a food by itself. Most food is mixed together and the glycemic index is no longer valid.

Most diets based on the glycemic index are much better than other weight loss diets. But, ensure that unhealthy foods are not eaten. And weight lifting should always be a part of the plan to keep muscle loss to a minimum

  • Medifast Diet
This is a diet that will really set you back. This program is prescribed by doctors for very overweigtht people. I don't believe it should be used by anyone.

This is just another example of a very low calorie diet that will shed the pounds away in the form of muscle and leave you looking worse. Your metabolism will slow down, and you'll have trouble keeping the weight off.

Moving on to the next diet in the list of weight loss programs...

  • NutriSystem Diet
Nutrisystem is a joke. Here's just another example of how lazy our world has gotten. I hate hearing that people just don't have the time to eat. Take the time to plan your life, and you'll find that there's plenty of time.

Nutrisystem is another low calorie diet that uses Jilian Barber as one of its models for the commercial. She let herself go for a little while and then simply went back to exercising and eating right. Of course, she's going to lose the fat very quickly.

Nutrisystem contains pre packaged meals that are not good for you. The foods are processed foods that contain ingredients that help the food last longer in a box. The food doesn not taste good. You can do much, much better with natural foods from the grocery store.

  • Zone Diet
The Zone diet is simply a diet that has you aim for certain percentages of protein, carbs, and fat. I think the percentages are great for people who may be carb sensitive.

The fat and carbs you must come from good sources, and the protein must be a lean protein. If you do that, the diet will work well along with an exercise program consisting of weightlifting and cardio.

Just don't go low calorie if you decide to use the zone diet. Low calorie diets do not work! Let's continue with the list of weight loss programs...

  • Slim Fast Diet
The Slim Fast diet is another diet that is purely a joke. The whole point of this program is for the company to make money off of their shakes and bars and leave you in worse shape than before you started.

The bars by Slim Fast do taste very good, and I sometimes eat them as a cheat meal. Slim Fast foods are loaded with vitamins but they are loaded with sugars also. Stay away from Slim Fast foods if you want to make fast progress.

The next diet in our list of weight loss programs is a very popular one.

  • Atkins Diet
This diet is very unhealthy. A low carb diet is a horrible diet long term. I know some people that stay on an Atkins diet all the time with little results. And I wonder why? The body adjusts to anything you throw at it.

Our bodies were made to run on carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are the fuel for our bodies. Eat a low carb diet all the time, and you'll feel worse than ever before. Your body will simply burn protein for energy, not fat!

Stay away from the Atkins diet. Let's move on in our list of weight loss programs...

  • Jenny Craig Diet
The Jenny Craig diet is a joke much like the NutriSystem diet except it will cost you a lot more money. Jenny Craig is just another one of the low calorie diets - all of these diets are the same.

A low calorie diet just isn't going to get the job done. Learn how to lose fat the right way by following the link to the program below. You'll have to work hard to lose fat. That's something none of these programs on this list of weight loss programs can recognize.

Fat loss takes hard work and the Jenny Craig diet definitely doesn't include any of that. So, it doesn't work!!!

Low Calorie Diets

Any low calorie diet will never work for permanent fat loss. See the list of weight loss programs above? All of them are low calorie diets. I do not recommend any of them at all.

Low calorie diets send your body into starvation mode. When this happens, your body begins to burn muscle because muscle is available to be burned as energy. Fat is no longer available as an energy source when calories are low.

You need muscle! Your muscle helps you burn fat by increasing your metabolism. Just to maintain muscle mass, your body needs more calories. As you lose muscle, you lose calorie burning muscle. More muscle means you can eat more for the rest of your life.

As you lose muscle, you have to eat fewer calories just to maintain your current body weight. And trust me, you don't want to lose muscle. You'll look worse and even sickly after a weight loss program.

Lift weights and do cardiovascular exercise to create a calorie deficit. Create the calorie deficit through exercise and increased activity instead of decreasing calories so much! This is the best way to lose fat and improve your looks.

There's no easy way out of this, so don't look for miracle programs and weight loss diets that promise to give you a dream body in a short amount of time! It's not going to happen.

Don't use any diets in the list of weight loss programs above! Take a better approach and start a fat loss program that includes weight lifting, diet, and cardio at the very least.

Totally Blown Away by the WLC System...

Hi Josh,

Greetings from Australia, mate. I received your WLC Program recently and have only just got to emailing you (reason being I took quite a while exploring the entire package!!!).

I have to admit that over the past years I've purchased many programs via the internet and I can say with complete honesty that I have *never, ever*, had the pleasure of receiving one such as yours!!!

I was totally blown away by everything, from the log books, the big beefy manual, right on through to all those fantastic calculators! It comes through that you really put your all into the package. I've seen all those programs which claim to 'lay it all out for you ... paint by numbers ... take you step-by-step', etc.but only one is deserving of these claims ... and it's yours.

I especially found the goal setting information to be very, very comprehensive and so well laid out. I've read goal setting books, articles, websites, etc. but never really applied any of it to my endeavours in the gym.

Your system will have me going after my dream body with a vengeance, as I will be commencing the program this coming Monday.

In previous years I was a chronic "routine/program hopper"; I'd spot yet another new system I thought I would follow and away I'd go ... for about 3 weeks if I was lucky!

Despite all that, during some years I'd build a little muscle, lose a little fat and start looking reasonable, then slack off. I have a well equipped home gym which includes everything you recommend.

I have always been good with my meal choices but the bottom line is I was never consistent with anything!!!!

I have a very strong feeling all that is about to end - pronto! I'm really looking forward to starting the program Monday 30th August, and totally looking forward to some *real results at last*.

Oh, by the way I am 56 years old and my long-term goal is to have an awesome physique at 60 in comparison to the average one I had at 30. Thank you once again for putting out such a terrific and very complete program - I will not have any hesitation in recommending it to everyone I know.

Cheers,
Gary McDonald
