Need to Gain Weight

I am 5'9", 125lbs (0 fat), and I really need to gain weight.

I try to eat as much as i can but with my job and daily activities it make it hard to "eat a lot."

What are some great foods/supplements i should be consuming to get to my goal of 150 as fast as I can?

How to Gain Weight Part 1

Gaining weight is all about building muscle. You don't want to gain a lot of fat in the process but some fat gain along with lots of muscle gain will be good in your case.

When trying to gain weight fast, many people will put some fat on and many people cannot afford to put any more fat on their bodies. This means they have to build muscle at a slower rate.

In your case, though, you have very little fat to start with. This means you can build muscle fast and afford to add a little bit of body fat in the process. Adding some body fat is even better for building muscle with most people. It's usually harder to build muscle with very low levels of body fat and keep it that way.

So for you...

You need to first be using an intelligently designed weight training program that focuses on increasing your strength with the big compound exercises:

1. Squats
2. Deadlifts
3. Bench Press
4. Rows
5. Overhead Press
6. Pull Ups
7. Dips

You need to focus on those exercises and those exercises only while you are gaining weight. You will get very strong on those exercises as you are eating a lot of food for weight gain.

Now... let's move onto specifics about your questions:

You can always make a little time during the day to get some food down the hatch. You just have to plan properly. You only need a few minutes to drink a casein protein shake with fish oil and flax oil. If you plan ahead, you can put some protein in a shaker bottle along with some ground up oats and add the oil and water to the shake when you're ready to drink. Takes about a minute to make and drink. That's it.

You can always add a shake like the above any time during the day when you don't have much time to eat.

How to Gain Weight Part 2

You can also eat on nuts and seeds throughout the day. Any type is good: peanuts, walnuts, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc. Just try to get the raw and natural form so you don't get all the salt intake and other bad stuff.

You can cook up an entire turkey for the week and put it in the fridge. Eat on that throughout the week. You don't even have to heat it up. I love cold turkey sandwiches with a little mayo.

Make a huge meatlof for the week. Cold meatloaf sandwiches are also great.

Cook a big batch of hard boiled eggs for the week. They only take a minute or so to eat.

You just have to plan ahead and thin it all out. Fruit is easy to add to meals, nuts and seeds are quick and easy with no preparation time.

Fish oil and flax oil are both very easy to add to shakes. Even olive oil is good to add to shakes.

You're going to have to eat a lot of food to gain weight. You'll be full all the time and it won't be very comfortable with a full belly all day long, but that's what you have to do to gain weight.

Do 2 to 3 cardio sessions each week too for health purposes. I know most people will tell you not to do cardio since you are trying to gain weight. Big mistake by not doing cardio. Cardio actually will help you build muscle.

I made that same mistake of not doing cardio and gained over 80 pounds of body weight. Blood pressure got very high. Added cardio back in and everything got better. Felt lots better too. Many people make this mistake. Do your cardio... just 2 to 3 times per week for 30 minutes will work great. No more than that is needed. Do different activities too.

Eat 6 to 7 meals per day. 2.5 to 3.5 hours apart will work great. You will need to plan ahead to get this right. Think of when you can eat each day, plan the meals, and just do it.

If you aren't gaining weight, you aren't eating enough food. Weigh yourself each week. If you don't gain any weight, increase the amount of food at each meal. It's easy to gain weight... you just have to eat enough food. If you don't gain, you've got to eat more.
