Pre and Post Workout
by: Josh -- Author WLC Program

Yes, I only mix it with water. I mix it with about 30 ounces of water... I drink about half or less before the workout, and sip on the rest during my workout. After the workout, I drink it all at once.

And yes, it does taste pretty bad for most people... for me, it doesn't bother me at all. I guess I have become accustomed to the taste.

I tell many people to use crystal light or some other similar flavoring. Even a little grape juice might work well too.

Yes, it's normal for the BCAA's to not dissolve very well. I continue to shake it up before I take a drink every time. Just swish it around a little before you take a sip. And if there's any left when I am finished, I just add a little more water to make sure I get it all.

The amount for you should be about right. Is it the amount of water that may seem like too much? After a workout, my stomach is always completely full... from the water and the food. But, eating and drinking lots before and after your workout will give you GREAT results.

If you think it will help you become accustomed to it, cut the doses in half and then work your way up from there. It might just be the amount of liquid that seems like too much... it fills your stomach up fast. You will become accustomed to it rather quickly.

And... if you don't drink much caffeine during the day, try adding green tea to that pre workout drink to give you an extra kick.

Does that help at all?

Gag me...
by: Mike T.

Josh,
I have started in on the program full fledge and its been a big change but a good one. The hardest thing so far is getting down the waxy maize and the BCAA's. I feel like I am taking too much so here is what I am doing so tell me if it sounds good to you.
I am trying to gain weight so when I plug my 3500 calories a day into the log book it tells me I should have 60 grams (two scoops) of waxy maize and 17 grams (10 teaspoons)of BCAA's for my pre-workout shake and also for my post-workout shake. It seems like its too much. Do you just mix yours with water and thats it? The BCAA's dont disolve very good. Is that normal? The taste is beyond awful but I think I can get over it. Should I start small and work my way up to those larger amounts?
Thanks Josh!

Recommend Supplements and Brands 2 of 2
by: Josh -- Authof WLC Program

This is continued from previous comment.

Pre and Post Workout Supplements

And then of course for pre and post workout, I highly recommend the 1Fast400 brand of BCAA's and Waxy Maize. They are very cheap but have worked great for me for years.

Waxy Maize

BCAA's

Now, I must warn you... the taste of Waxy Maize and BCAA's is not great. Waxy Maize is flavorless but the BCAAs don't taste too great. I recommend that you mix in somethig with it... like a stevia based sweetener. Crystal light is okay but it's not stevia based.

If you'd rather have something that tastes a little better there are some pre workout drinks thatyou can mix with the BCAAs and Waxy Maize that have good flavor.

Pre Workout Drink

I love the pre workout drink above and used it for a while. It mixes well, gives tons of energy for your workout, and tastes good with the waxy maize and BCAA's. I don't use it any more... I use green tea instead mixed in my pre workout drink. The taste of the Waxy Maize and BCAA combo doesn't bother me... most people do not like it, though.

Green Tea Extract

I mentioned that I use Green Tea in my pre workout drink instead of some other pre workout energy supplement. I love green tea! I have never became sick while using green tea regularly. It might just be in my head, but I don't believe so.

It works great for energy because it contains caffeine. I do not drink any other caffeine during the day so the caffeine in the green tea works great for me. If you have other caffeine drinks during the day, it probably won't do much for you. I do not recommend drinking caffeine all day long as most people do. You can get addicted to caffeine very easily. That's why people believe they NEED their coffee. They don't NEED the coffee. It's the caffeine talking.

Green Tea Extract

As you can see from the links, I highly recommend ordering everything from Amazon. You'll get your supplements fast and many come with free shipping. You can also check the ratings that people give along with their comments. I love Amazon because you get real ratings and comments from real people. I buy everything from Amazon now... even Christmas presents for the first time this past Christmas.

It's a great place to shop, and they have never done me wrong... not once. Everyone seems to love the place. Give them a shot.

Hope this helps Lee. If you need any more info, just let me know.

Recommended Supplements and Brands 1 of 2

Hey Lee,

Very glad the first workout went well. They will get better as you continue... lots of fun awaits you!

Let me go over the supplements and the brands I recommend for the WLC Program. Not sure how far you want to go or what types of supplements you are looking for, so I will go over the basics that I recommend.

Whey Protein

Optimum Nutrition is my favorite brand and I've used tons of different brands. The flavors are great. I like Double Rich Chocolate, Vanilla, Chocolate Mint, and Strawberry.

Recommended Whey Protein

Blender Bottle

I know this isn't a supplement, but this goes along with the whey protein. I have tried tons of different shaker bottles over the years. I stopped when I got to this one. This is BY FAR the best shaker bottle you will find anywhere. There's no chance in leaking and no chance in the top popping off. Highly, highly recommended.

Blender Bottle for Protein Shakes

Fish Oil and Krill Oil

Healthy fats are a must. I recommend a variety of nuts but I also recommend fish oil, krill oil, flax oil, and any other healthy oils... as mentioned in the WLC Program Guide. You can also download the Quick Reference Guide of the Best Food Sources too for more healthy fats. But here's the brands I recommend:

Fish Oil Liquid
Krill Oil Liquid
