Training Lower Body With Bad Knees

by Keen
(U.S,A)

Im a 15 year old guy who is in constant action with sports and life; I have os-good schlatter which is common in growing teens.

Os-good schlatter is a problem when your bones grow too fast for your ligaments to catch up causing pain and inflammation to occur at a site just below the knees.

All doctors can recommend is icing and rest; but with my schedule and life there is no way I can accomadate that.

I do ice my knees regularly(2x a day) but I would love to know some great knee exercises that are low impact but yield great results. Also any stretches would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Low Impact Exercises for the Knees
by: Josh -- Author WLC System

Have you tried any of the big compound exercises for the legs yet? Maybe they won't hurt your knees. I don't know very much about your condition, though.

See if you can do Squats, Stiff Legged Deadlifts, Pull Thru, Lunges, Good Mornings, or Trap Bar Deadlifts. Any variation of the above exercises are very good too.

If you can't do those, I would do sled pulling forwards and backwards. Pulling a weighted sled is great for your legs. You'll want to take long strides and progressively add more and more resistance to build muscle and strength in your legs.

Sled exercises really are one of the best leg exercises that not very many people know about. I bought a sled to pull outside in the yard and made a sled out of an old tire to pull in my unfinished basement along the concrete floor.

You can do almost any type of exercise with a sled. Simply walking forward with it and walking backwards with it will work your legs very well.

You can also hook an ankle strap to one leg at a time and pull the sled that way forwards and backwards. You can also go side to side.

The options for leg exercises here are pretty much endless with less strain on the knees.
