Weight Lifting Exercises
How to Choose the Right Weight Lifting Exercises For You
Choosing the right weight lifting exercises can be very frustrating at times -- even for the most advanced weight lifter.
For beginners... It's even tougher to choose the right weightlifting exercises.
If you've read much about weight lifting on this website, you'll know that your focus (no matter
what your goals may be) should be to build strength, build muscle, and make progress each and every workout.
When you focus on getting stronger, building muscle, and making progress with your weight lifting...
Your body will transform into that lean and muscular body that looks and feels fantastic.
Focus on These Weight Lifting Exercises
How do you know if an exercise is a good exercise for building muscle and strength? It's really pretty simple...
You want to choose weight training exercises that allow you to progress to lifting heavy weights safely. You want to
choose compound weightlifting exercises meaning you use a greater amount of muscle mass to execute a lift.
When an exercise is compound, you work a greater amount of muscle mass in a shorter amount of time.
You don't have to
spend hours and hours in the gym working each muscle group. A compound exercise will work more muscle in less time.
When an exercise
is more compound than another exercise, you will be able to lift heavier weights with the more compound exercise.
As an example, let's say you want to work your biceps with a great compound exercise. Would you choose close grip pull ups,
barbell curls, or concentration curls?
The pull ups use your entire body weight (which happens to be 150 pounds as an example), the barbell curls use 85 pounds, and the
concentration curls use 30 pounds. Which exercises are more compound? The ones that use heavier weights.
Close grip pull ups should be your number one choice. Barbell curls second. And concentration curls third.
Weight Lifting Exercises Organized by Major Muscle Group
On each of the following pages here at Weight Lifting Complete, you'll find my recommendations for the best exercises for each major
muscle group.
My muscle building and strength building strategy revolves around the fact that I choose the fewest number of exercises each workout
to fully work every major muscle group in the body.
This allows you to get in the gym, get your work done, and get out of the gym in a shorter amount of time with a better workout than
the vast majority of weight lifting programs in existence.
Compound weightlifting exercises are THE ANSWER.
They save you time and build muscle and strength faster. You get a great body in a shorter
amount of time.
