I received a question about using the wrong gym for weight lifting from a new member of WLC.
She stopped making progress shortly after joining a gym for women.
The gym was marketed to women only, which many women find comforting for many reasons.
So many women fall for this slick marketing and end up joining a women only gym and then find that the weight lifting equipment isn't working for them.
They get initial results from exercise because anything will work if you've been sedentary and inactive.
Once you start exercising, the results will start to come.
BUT then… if you aren't doing the right things, all results will stop. And many gyms for women just don't have the weight lifting quipment you need to make great progress.
So please don't waste your money on a gym that doesn't have adequate weight training equipment.

Question from Amy About the Wrong Gym for Weight Lifting
Hi Josh, I have joined a gym which is exclusively for women and I am bound to them for a three year contract so changing gyms is not an option.
I have been attending for a year and I am committed to the process. However I have stopped loosing weight and I feel very bulky and uncomfortable in my clothes.
This feeling made me research training on the internet and there I found your website.
I purchased your course this morning and I am reading through the Curvaceous manual and have noticed I need to do chin ups and use a barbell.
My gym does not have that sort of equipment.
I have been doing 1 hour at the gym every weekday and use the equipment called techno gym.
Please help me understand how to do your workout in that environment and please assure me this bulky uncomfortable feeling will go away with your training.
Answer From Josh About Using the Wrong Gym for Weight Lifting
Since you have no other choice because you are currently locked into a contract, we'll find a way to make it work for you.
If you want to focus on losing body fat, start with the Fabulous Fat Loss program vice the Curvaceous program.
No worries on the lack of the barbell, the free weights, chin up bar, and other weight training equipment.
As long as you have a way to do exercises safely and increase the resistance, you will do great. I recommend free weights but any type of resistance will work and that includes machines.
All you need to do is find a good replacement for the exercises within the program that you can do with the machines. I do not know the machines you are using very well but I can help if needed.
For example… in place of squats there should be some type of machine squats or leg press or something similar.
And for fat loss… to get rid of the bulky feeling: make sure you are doing cardio as that is the key to fat loss along with the combination of proper diet and proper weight training.
If you follow the outline of the Fabulous Fat Loss program, the fat will disappear very quickly. You'll feel like a new person.
Let me know if I can help.
For others who have not yet joined a gym, please make sure the gym you use will have free weights. When I say free weights, I mean olympic barbell sets, weight plates, dumbbell sets, pull up station, dip station, cable stations, and more.
Don't sign a contract with a gym unless they have free weights.
If the gym only has machines, find another one. If you have no other choice like Amy, you can use the machines but you can get superior results with free weights!
