Only the best ab exercises will be discussed on this page.
Most everyone has a good looking set of abdominals under the layers of fat.
Get rid of the fat, and you'll see your abs.
Most compound weightlifting exercises work the abs very well.
I don't recommend many ab exercises or recommend that you waste your time doing endless sets of crunches.
Crunches, Sit Ups, and Other Ab Exercises???
You just don't need that many crunches. The abs do need some work and do need to be strong BUT most compound exercises work them very well.
In order to see your abs, you have to lose the fat.
The best ab exercises do not burn fat around your midsection. Many people do not know this.
Weightlifting exercises are for building muscle – not burning fat. Use diet and aerobic exercise to burn fat.
The best abdominal exercises should be treated as any other other weightlifting exercise.
They should be done to build muscle.
You can't directly burn fat around the midsection with ANY weight training exercise, though, they do help burn fat as a whole.
Cardiovascular exercise is the only activity that burns fat directly through exercise, and you can't target an area of the body with cardio either.
The body burns fat where it chooses, and we have no control over that.
All we can do is do enough exercise and eat the right foods. The body will burn fat… when and where it wants.
Best Ab Exercises
The best abdominal exercises in no particular order…
The links above take you further down this page to the section below.
You simply need to use the best abdominal exercises and work on making progress with them.
Progress equals increasing the number of reps you are doing, increasing the amount of resistance, or doing more difficult abdominal exercises.
Reverse Crunch
The reverse crunch is one of the best abdominal exercises. You work the abs through a complete range of motion. You can add weight to this exercise through the use of a cable machine.
Swiss Ball Crunches
Swiss ball crunches are my favorite ab exercise. Why? This exercise gives great results, and I attribute those results to the great abdominal stretch you can get with this exercise. You won't get this type of abdominal stretch with any other exercise.
Ensure you watch the video above. The guy in the video has some pretty solid advice for you.
Hanging Knee Raises
Hanging knee raises are another one of the best exercises for the abdominals.
You work the entire abdominal area with this exercise. You can use wrist straps if your grip is too weak to hold onto the bar for longer periods of time.
I'm just not sure if the lady talking in the video above really knows too much, but at least the video shows you the exercise.
Experiment With Other Abdominal Exercises
You can experiment with other ab exercises, but the 3 listed above should do a very good job developing the abdominal muscles.
You really need to lower your body fat to see your abs.
BUT also remember to have plenty of compound weight training exercises in your weight lifting program. Squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press, rows, chin ups, and dips.
Those exercises will help you build a strong midsection. Much more than a few body weight ab exercises.
The abdominal exercises shown above will help you build the abs and strengthen them — not burn fat from the abdominals area.
Remember, you've got to eat right and use cardio to burn body fat in order to see your abs.
