See what your BMI Score is and see if it makes any sense to you. Are you considered obese but no where near obese?
I am considered to be obese by both index rating systems due to the increased muscle mass. I definitely am not obese by any standard except for the BMI. You'll see that the Body Mass Index doesn't work too well for people who lift weights and train regularly.
Check And See What Your BMI Score Says

A Body Mass Index Chart or BMI Chart is simply a function of your height and weight. Doctors and researchers incorrectly use the Body Mass Index (BMI) as a measure of obesity.
Anyone with common sense can tell you that there is too much variability in body types to measure obesity as a function of height and weight.
You can easily pick out two people with the same height and weight — one will be obese, the other will be muscular with low levels of body fat.
I absolutely loathe the BMI Chart, but I wanted to present this page to you so that you understand the chart and why it is useless.
Doctors who know what they're doing will not use BMI as a measure of obesity. Many athletes, weight lifters, and all bodybuilders will be classified as obese.
BMI Incorrectly Labels Many People as Obese
Many normal people with a good body fat percentage will be classified as obese. Don't let the BMI Scale fool you.
For example, my current body weight is 237 pounds at a height of 5'11”. My BMI is 33, which means I am obese according to BMI.
My body fat percentage is close to 12 percent, which means I am no where near obese. The Body Mass Index is wrong in many to most cases.
Now, take another 5'11” person weighing 237 pounds with a body fat percentage of 35%.
This person and myself have the exact same BMI. Nonsense. The BMI is almost worthless.
What Is An Average Person?
It's absolutely ridiculous. Some people will argue that BMI is for average people. Okay then, what exactly is average? There's definitely an average but there's too much variance for any chart like this to work.
Doctors and other professionals who rely on the BMI should do a little research and STOP relying on body weight alone. Many docotrs base treatment off of the BMI. BIG MISTAKE.
BMI = [ (Body Weight in Kilograms) / (Height in Meters)^2 ]
The calculation above is very easy. You can download the spreadsheet in the link at the top of the page. The spreadsheet I've provided for you has a BMI calculator along with a full BMI chart.
Use Body Fat Percentage Instead Of The Body Mass Index
Body fat percentage should be used as a measure of obesity. Nothing can compare with body fat percentage when it comes to measuring body composition.
Measuring your body fat percentage is not difficult at all any more. You can measure your own body fat within several minutes using a cheap caliper that does a good job.
BMI is absolutely worthless! Use body fat percentage instead. Your doctor should use body fat percentage as a measure of obesity. If your doctor uses BMI as a measure of obesity, please educate him/her on the fact that BMI should not be used anywhere.
It's simple for anyone to understand why the Body Mass Index is totally useless compared to body fat % as a measure of obesity.
Ask your doctor why he/she doesn't measure body fat percentage instead. A cheap pair of calipers, a few skinfold measurements, and a quick calculation can be done in only a few minutes.
You can even use ONLY your waist measurement to give you a decent estimate of your body fat percentage.
Doctors may argue that body mass index can be useful for people in general, but body fat percentage is the true measurement of progress. Get rid of the BMI. If you use this body mass index chart here today, you'll see how ridiculous it can be.
