What is the best home gym?
The best home gym consists of free weights. Free weights should always form the foundation of any gym for weight training.
Machines are NOT at the top of the list no matter how great the marketers make them sound.
Just good old barbells, dumbbells, and kettlebells will out last and out perform any machine.
Here's what I recommend for a home gym:
1. Power Rack
2. Adjustable Weight Bench
3. Olympic Barbell Sets
4. Adjustable Dumbbell Set (or full hex dumbbell set)
5. Chin Up Station (if power rack doesn't have)
6. Dip Station (if power rack doesn't have)
That's it. That alone will form an amazing foundation for your home gym. Once you have that, you can slowly add some extras.
You might want to add a cable system for accessory exercises such as the cable kickback, terminal knee extension, calf raises of all types, face pulls, and many other great cable exercises.
A hip belt is highly recommended from Ironmind (also called super squats belt) to add extra weight around your waist for chin ups and dips.
I also recommend MicroGainz fractional plates so you can add small amounts of weight to exercises when needed.
A trap bar is also a great addition along with a safety squat bar.
So that was all the weight lifting equipment you need.
I also recommend 2 to 3 different cardio machines for a home gym if you have room. If not, I recommend cardio workouts to be done outdoors anyway as you need to get out in the fresh air and sun.
A treadmill, elliptical, and rowing machine are my most highly recommended cardio machines.
