Weight lifting shoes are something I never paid much attention to until I realized the amount of arch I had in my “cross trainer” shoes.
I didn't pay much attention to my squat form.
I just didn't know what I was doing when I first started lifting weights.
I soon realized how important a good pair of shoes were to my weight lifting efforts.
I bought a pair of Reebok, high top, flat soled shoes to wear only during my workouts. They were the older style and looked a lot like Chuck Taylors.
I used them for a long time and they did very well. I still have them and wear them every once in a while. A good pair of workout shoes should last you a very long time. Think about it… you only wear them for a few hours a week compared to around a hundred hours a week for your other shoes.
I want to tell you about the best pair of weight lifting shoes you could ever buy. I bought a pair of these shoes after hearing one of my friends talk about his pair that he used for lifting weights.
I don't think you'll ever find a pair of shoes to compete with these. I absolutely love them. They fit like a glove.
Otomix Weight Lifting Shoes
The pair of shoes you see below are the exact style that I use. I was expecting a good pair of shoes when I received them, but I didn't expect them to be so comfortable.
They fit perfectly. Let me give you a tip on buying these online, though.
Do not order them a half size smaller like recommended by some of the online stores.
I took the advice of a buyer that had left a comment and did not order my pair a half size smaller. They fit great at my regular size.
They are actually a little smaller than my other weight training shoes, but I have a little too much room in my other shoes.
You should be fine ordering them at your regular size. If you don't feel comfortable ordering online, see if you can find a local store that carries them. I could not find a local store. Otomix shoes are pretty tough to find locally.
There are many other styles of Otomix shoes besides the style that I ordered. I haven't tried any of the other styles.
Why You Need A Good Pair Of Weightlifting Shoes…
You do not want to be wearing shoes with high arches or high soles during your workouts. You want to be as flat footed as possible when doing your weight lifting exercises.
But, you want to be comfortable too. For example, when doing very heavy standing calf raises I like to have a pair of shoes that help pad the area around my big toe. During calf raises, you have to ensure you're going up on your big toe as far as possible.
These can be painful without a good pair of shoes.
For squats, you need to be able to “sit back” into the squat to ensure the proper form. Imagine trying to sit back into the squat position with a pair of shoes that are working against you the entire time.
The right weight training shoes will help your form on many exercises.
