You MUST have the right workout equipment for a properly equipped home gym.
We're going to tell you exactly what you need to lift weights productively and properly in the privacy of your home.
You won't need a lot of fancy stuff to build your home gym. And you won't need a lot of space either.
You just need some simple free weights and a few other pieces of weight lifting equipment.
If you make good choices when buying equipment, you'll have everything you need for the rest of your life. We're going to show you exactly what you need so you get the best bang for your buck.
I Started Out Cheap And Upgraded Over The Years
I started lifting weights during my college years when I had next to no money.
I worked as much as I could but I had to spend money on gas to get me to and from college along with buying food. So I didn't have much money to buy expensive weight lifting equipment for a home gym.
So I got myself a cheap standard sized barbell set and a cheap set of adjustable dumbbells. The handles even bent on me when I added extra weight. But they worked for a few years.
As I saved money, I began upgrading as much as I could.
I built my home gym over the years. So if you just can't afford good workout equipment for now, get anything you can that allows you to safely increase the amount of resistance you are using over time.
That's all you need to make amazing progress.
Now let me tell you why you should start buying your own workout equipment and building your very own home gym. I have created a very nice home gym now over the years and you can too. Just start out slow if you can't afford everything right now.
A Home Gym Saves You Money and Helps You Make Better Progress in the Long Run
Let's compare a home gym and a commercial gym. Have you ever been to a commercial gym before like 24Hour Fitness, Urban Fitness, or Gold's Gym?
If you have, some of the things we're going to say below will be familiar to you.
- Variety and Availability of Weight Training Equipment
A commercial gym has a large variety of equipment but most of that equipment is of no value on the WLC Program. Free weights are highly recommended over machines. So you can take all the machines you see in the gym and throw them out of the equation.
With your own home gym, you don't have to wait for others to finish using certain weight training equipment that you need. The equipment is yours and when you're ready to use it, it's there for you.
- Distractions at the Gym
Let's face it… there are a lot of people at the gym. Some of them are very annoying. If you've ever been a regular member of a gym before, you'll know how annoying many of the people can be.
Some are always trying to give you advice when you don't ask for it — it's usually the people who have no idea what they are doing. There are tons of other distractions like personal trainers trying to get you to hire them, people who make discouraging remarks, and more.
All you want to do is use the weight training equipment for your workout and get out of there BUT all the distractions make that very difficult to accomplish.
- Weight Lifting Music
A commercial gym plays the worst music for weight lifting. Of course, music all depends on your taste BUT I doubt many of you want to listen to love songs or slow music while you're lifting weights. It may work for the select few, but that's about it.
With a home gym, you can listen to the music you want to listen to. And as loud as you want. Plus, you don't have to have an Ipod strap hanging on your arm if you want to listen to your music.
Weight lifting music is very powerful, and you should listen to the music that gives you an emotional response… it gives you instant strength gains. And you won't get that at a commercial gym.
- Money From Your Pockets
A home gym costs more money initially BUT saves you a ton of money in the long run. You don't have to pay monthly fees to use your home gym. You simply buy the equipment and it's yours.
There aren't any slick contracts to deal with, or gym employees that keep pestering you about your membership. You don't have to worry about any of that stuff.
It only takes a year or two for you to earn your initial investment back. You save the monthly membership fee, gas money, wear and tear on your car, and time driving to and from the gym. And you get a home gym that will last a lifetime.
- The Convenience Factor
If you go to a commercial gym you have to get everything ready, get your gym bag, your weight lifting gloves, your pre and post workout shake, your wrist straps, a towel, and more. You have to drive to the gym, get everything out, workout, and then drive back home.
That's a lot of trouble for each weight lifting workout and each cardiovascular exercise workout.
With a home gym, you don't have to worry about any of that. You have no excuse for not working out. Everything is right there for you. You'll make better progress because a home gym is so convenient.
